Junky but not Funky

I am doing this post for the Saturday Night special at Funky Junk InteriorsAfter checking out all the ideas on the blog, I started looking around my house for a project to share.  And Guess What?  I'm not funky.  I like to make new things from salvaged pieces and I do a lot of "trash to treasures".  This chair was found in the trash without even a seat.

Well, I finally decided to share this display shelf made out of a salvaged furniture piece from my Grandmother.  I added molding and a piece of wood across the top, painted it all out and added an antiquing glaze.  I have it hanging in my bedroom with some of my floral prints displayed on top.

From now on, as I'm doing projects, I'm going to try and add some FUNK to my JUNK.

The Thrill Of The Find

Look at the dishes I found at Home Goods!  I was so excited.  I've been looking for red and white dishes for a very long time.

They go so well with all my other things.

I hope you find what you are looking for today.

French Country Chalkboard

What do you do with a plain steel door in your laundry/mud room?
The first thing I did was to use the same faux finish paint technique that I used on the walls on the door.  Next I decoupaged a rooster print that I found at Michael's onto the door. Then I created a chalkboard underneath by taping off the area and painting with chalkbaord paint.

I then cut some molding with a miter saw.

I painted the molding red, distressed the edges with sandpaper, and wiped on a dark stain.

I don't know if you can nail into a steel door, so I used PowerGrab to adhere the molding to the door.

Much better than a plain old door, don't you think?

I will be linking this to DIY Day at A Soft Place To Land, so go check out all of the other projects.

Dining Room Makeover

I had a few days off from work, so I decided to repaint my dining room.
This is the color before.

I thought a natural color would be a little more sophisticated.  So here is the color after.

The original window treatments went back up.

And the plates and cupboard went back to their original spots.

The rest of the room will be a work in progress.
I'm planning a new shelf, a slip covered chair, and a shabby pink bench to start.  Well, I'd better get busy.  Come back and check on me!

WELCOME

Welcome to my first post and welcome to my home. It's cold and dreary outside...

And even a little spooky.

Please come inside and get warm by the fire.

I have brownies and fresh hot coffee for you.

I am very excited to get to know all of you and to share decorating ideas and projects.  Please come back next time for the first project and entry in The Decorating Diaries.
